FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: composite hollow shaft has functional members positioned on its outer side. It is assembled by expansion of some sections located in axial direction. Internal tube in expansion sections is deformed plastically, and functional members of expansion sections are deformed elastically only. Functional members are combined partially into multifunctional members. In this case, expansion sections are positioned between functional members. Multifunctional members consist of several parts mounted in axial direction which are positioned concentrically to main circumference. Internal diameter of steps is somewhat larger than external diameter of internal tube. From side adjacent to part of noncircular form, steps are provided with circular band of approximately half the wall thickness which is added to full thickness by part of noncircular form adjacent to it. Some circular parts have internal diameter corresponding precisely to external diameter of circular steps. Invention also contains method of manufacture of such composite hollow shafts and method of manufacture of multifunctional members, particularly, multi-cam modules. Some functional members are manufactured of tubes with profile corresponding to that of functional member, and then they are combined into multi-cam module.
