FIELD: metallurgy, namely structures of sliding gate type closure with cement free joint between closure and discharging hole of metallurgical aggregate such as oxygen converter filled with melt metal. SUBSTANCE: gate type sliding closure includes at least one stationary refractory plate whose opening is coincided with discharging hole; one movable refractory plate with opening; unit such as pneumatic cylinder for moving movable refractory plate relative to stationary one in order to control liquid metal stream due to regulating mutual overlapping of openings in plates; spring unit for forcing movable refractory plate and stationary refractory plate in order to provide static and dynamic fluid-tightness between said plates. Unit for forcing mutually matched connecting surfaces around discharging hole of aggregate and around opening of stationary refractory plate for liquid metal stream provides mutual joining of said surfaces by pressure with formation of joint nonpermeable for metal between discharging hole and stationary refractory plate and without use of adhesive. Said unit may be in the form of spring for closely forcing together mutually matched connecting surfaces. Method according to invention comprises steps of acting by means of forcing unit, preferably, upon stationary refractory plate when it is extended aside from discharging hole at process of changing plate in order to clean connecting surface of discharging portion of metallurgical aggregate. EFFECT: simplified process for changing worn refractory parts of closure, reduced restoration time period, enhanced operational reliability of closure. 16 cl, 7 dwg
