FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method relates to grinding of materials difficult to work. Part is A part is rotated and given longitudinal feed, and working is performed by abrasive wheel installed at an angle to plane perpendicular to axis of rotation. Wheel is positioned on moving supporting flange capable of turning and axial oscillating motions along with wheel due to helical surface on body which carries supporting flange. Turning and axial oscillations of wheel are obtained due to longitudinal component of cutting force which occurs alternately on wheel end faces when wheel runs on margin to be removed from surface being worked. Method enhances stability and reduces level of vibrations. Excitation of turning and axial oscillations of wheel without oscillations of spindle extends service life of its supports and does not require auxiliary drives, vibrators and considerable consumption of electric power. EFFECT: improved quality of worked surface. 1 ex, 3 dwg
