FIELD: systems based on limestone for gas scrubbing by counterflow contact of flue gases in open towers with sprayers for adsorption of impurities from flue gases. SUBSTANCE: method involves washing-out of sulfur oxides ((SOx)) from effluent flows of flue gases with aqueous limestone slimes with high efficiency due to application of perfected entrainment separator. In preferable version of design of single-pass counterflow scrubber for wet limestone scrubbing of gas (preferably with zone of spraying contact of less than 6 m high) operating at flow velocity of main mass of gases above 4.5 m/s, vertical flow of flue gas is freed from considerable part of slims drops and deflected for efficient separation of mist in mist separator with adequate drainage for horizontal flows. Entrainment separator is single-pass device with separate plates oriented for efficient operation at reduced degrees of collision of drops with upper walls (for instance, roof) of scrubber and periodic scrubbing. Use of rotary heat exchanger vertically oriented and provided with horizontal shaft is simplified, and demand in space and system of connecting channels is considerably reduced.
