FIELD: electrical industry. SUBSTANCE: method includes electrochemical etching at anode current density 50-100 A/sq.dm and temperature 60-80 C in acidic solution containing 70-150 g/l sulfuric acid and 10-25 g/l cupric sulfate pentahydrate; chemical chromatizing in 2-5-fold diluted with water exhausted chrome plating solution at final concentration of Cr(VI) ions (on conversion to chromium trioxide) 90-130 g/l and sulfuric acid 60-120 g/l; and deposition of chromium coatings in Cr(VI)-based chrome plating electrolyte. Wire etching accuracy is increased by 0.2 mcm. Consumption of wash water is twice reduced. Preliminarily treatment of surface before chrome plating is simplified and synchronized with chromium coating deposition. EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency and improved environmental condition. 1 tbl
