FIELD: methods in inorganic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: high-porous amorphous alumina is prepared as follows. Amorphous aluminum hydroxide is synthesized in a closed vessel from gallium-aluminum melt by treating it with mixture of inert or low-activity gas with 1 to 30 vol % of water steam at 50 to 120 C followed by heat treatment. Synthesis is carried out in presence of Lewis acid: solid-phase aluminum trichloride, which is prepared in situ by adding, to reaction zone, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen chloride, chlorine, or chloride of element more electropositive than aluminum. EFFECT: speeded up process. 5 cl, 1 tbl
