FIELD: sealing pipe lines carrying fluid media. SUBSTANCE: gate valve body has inlet and outlet branch pipes. Gate with two closing plates is mounted in body. Gate is mounted for motion in transversal direction relative to branch pipes fitted between two opposite mounting surfaces. Closing plates or their sealing surfaces are in tight contact with respective mounting surface of body under action of pressure medium when gate valve is in closed position. Pressure medium is introduced between two closing plates or sealing surfaces. Stiffening members are located in central zone of sides of two closing plates directed towards each other. EFFECT: highly effective seal and minimum friction during motion of gate valve. 21 cl, 13 dwg
