FIELD: manufacture of materials for making glass, optical fibers and semiconductors. SUBSTANCE: starting mixture containing silicon tetrachloride or germanium tetrachloride is subjected to isotope enrichment which is effected by gas centrifuging at 5 to 45 C. Enrichment is conducted by one of isotopes Ge70 or Si28. Introduction of pure chloride components for optical or semiconductor materials makes it possible to obtain atomically homogeneous chlorides, thus enhancing heat conductivity coefficient, reducing noise, increasing response of semiconductors and reducing absorption of optical materials. EFFECT: minimum expenses for realization of method due to used of chlorides of available technology. 4 cl, 2 tbl
