FIELD: machine-tool industry. SUBSTANCE: method is used in machining brittle materials. Method includes measurement of static pliabilities, inherent parts of oscillations, oscillation decrements of main section of lathe dynamic system, determination of cutting process dynamic characteristic, chip-formation time constants and obtaining of parameter characterizing stable cutting boundary. Then frequency locus is plotted according to the given formula from which maximum negative real component is determined. Real component is used for determination of critical allowance by the formula.
