FIELD: high-voltage pulse engineering. SUBSTANCE: generator has grounded electrode that forms stepping short-circuited line in the form of at least two series-connected sections of uniform lines with distributed parameters of equal electrical length To. High-voltage electrode placed inside second section of stepping line divides this section into two uniform lines. Voltage supply is inserted between high-voltage and grounded electrodes. Series-connected load and pre-pulse tube are connected to stepping line output. One of ends of additional uniform line whose electrical length also equals To is connected between high-voltage and grounded electrodes at point of connection of first and second sections of stepping line. Switching tube is provided on other end of additional line. Relationships for selecting wave impedances of stepping-line sections are given in description of invention. EFFECT: increased voltage across generator output in shaping high- efficiency square voltage pulse across matched resistive load. 1 dwg
