FIELD: mechanical engineering; diagnosing of engines, turbines, compressors and periodically operating devices by means of new mathematical wavelet analysis method. SUBSTANCE: time and amplitude characteristics of engine obtained by means of sensors mounted on engine are subjected to wavelet analysis to reveal whether wavelet coefficients characteristics in definite scales change materially before sharp change of engine operating conditions frequently leading to destruction of engine. Early diagnosing makes it possible to prevent breakdown. EFFECT: improved reliability of diagnosing of engines operation in stationary installations and in vehicles at steady and unstable conditions by revealing forerunners of possible trouble. 3 dwg
