FIELD: process of production of attenuated composite layers representing dielectrics, mainly of glass, with nanoparticles of metal introduced in them, applicable in devices of nonlinear optics, for example, in designing and production of optical switches in the picosecond band for optoelectronics, directional couplers, Mach-Zehnder interferometers, etc; these optical switches are used for development of optical systems of parallel data processing, as well as of spatial time multiplex transmitting systems. SUBSTANCE: the method provides for accomplishment of synthesis in a glass matrix by means of ion-ray implantation of metal nanoparticles. On completion of the implantation process the specimen is subjected to light pulse illumination in the absorption band of the source glass substrate providing for a total energy within 0.08 to 5 J/sq.cm, and to subsequent thermal treatment at a temperature of 150 to 500 C for a time period of 0.5 to 10 h. EFFECT: enhanced value of nonlinear susceptibility of the third order and expanded limits of practical use of nonlinear-optical materials on a glass base. 1 dwg, 7 ex
