FIELD: wide-band cellular communication systems. SUBSTANCE: invention may be used in direct channel using universal mobile telephone service (UMTS) and code-division multiple-access (cdma2000) standards for correction of reference oscillator frequency in order to achieve coherent message reception. In addition, invention may be used in satellite communication systems, which may have significant frequency distortion. Invention provides detection of frequency in sequence of Q iterations, iterating reduction of frequency indeterminacy until required precision of evaluation is reached. In addition, invention uses lesser number of parallel frequency channels for signal reception with respect to prior art. Required frequency detection precision is achieved by means of choice of reference signal function, which provides possibility to recover information about possible frequency value in frequency intervals between chosen hypotheses. Generalized correlation evaluation for each hypothesis for all iterations uses k respective correlation evaluations. Thus, frequency value can be approximated with high precision even for very low signal-noise ratio. EFFECT: increased precision of frequency detection for wide a priori frequency indeterminacy band and very low signal-noise ratio, decreased weight and cost of device. 6 cl, 5 dwg
