METHOD FOR INVESTIGATING TOTAL OPTICAL SYSTEM ABERRATION OF AN EYE Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves showing a patient visometric objects corresponding to maximum visual acuity. The patient fixes his eyes on the objects. A set of spherical lenses from 0.125 to -0.125 d are introduced before the eye under study, the lenses changing one another in rapid succession by means of lorgnette type device. The patient is asked to evaluate subjective changes in visual acuity. No changes in visual acuity being detected, the same kind of actions is carried out with lenses from 0.25 to -0.25 d taken from a test lens set and placed into special grooves in the lorgnette device. The process is repeated in increasing the optical force of the lenses by 0.125 d until the patient becomes aware of reduction in visual acuity. Algebraic difference of the optical forces for the pair of lenses causing the situation to take place, is interpreted as the value describing in the quantitative way in diopters the degree to which the total aberration of the eye under study is marked.
