FIELD: chemistry of polymers. SUBSTANCE: described is method of copolymerization of ethylene and propylene said method being carried out in suspension of liquid monomer in the presence of catalyst comprising vanadium and cocatalyst consisting of organic aluminium compound and optionally halogen-containing promoter. Vanadium- containing catalyst is applied onto inert support. Operations being carried out are as follows: inert support having water content of less than 200 ml-1 is impregnated with solution in hydrocarbons or halogen-containing hydrocarbons which are compounds of vanadium soluble in hydrocarbon with degree of oxidation from 3 to 5, vanadium content varying from 0.01 to 1 mmole of vanadium per gram of support; (b) solvent used in stage (a) is optionally removed from impregnated support; (c) inert support impregnated with vanadium in stage (a) or (b), hydrocarbon solution of compound of general formula (1): RnAlXm wherein R is C1-20 alkyl; X is halogen, n+m=3 and m is integer of 0 to 2, said stage (c) being carried out in inert atmosphere, preferably in atmosphere of ethylene or alpha- olefin, and molar ratio between aluminium of stage (c) and vanadium of stage (a) varies from 1/1 to 6/1; (d) catalyst comprising vanadium prepared in stage (c) is optionally separated and purified. EFFECT: better morphology of elastomers, and simplified process. 8 cl, 1 tbl
