FIELD: analytical methods. SUBSTANCE: invention, in particular, relates to controlling quality of vodka, alcohol (including medicine-destination alcohol), alcohol-containing wastes from production of alcoholic drinks under laboratory conditions. Preliminarily, 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine derivatives of aldehydes (hydrazones) are prepared and injected into column of chromatograph. Hydrazones of acetaldehyde and other reaction mixture components are detected spectrophotometrically on wavelengths 320 and 360 nm. Acetaldehyde is identified on the basis of its retention time and spectral correlation by comparing these data with those of standard acetaldehyde. Weight concentration of acetaldehyde within the range between 0.5 and 30 mg/l is calculated in terms of calibration equation expressing dependence of concentration on corresponding hydrazone peak area. Use of liquid chromatograph provided with column filled with invert-phase sorbent and chromatographing preliminarily prepared acetaldehyde hydrazone increases sensitivity of spectrophotometric detector to acetaldehyde enabling quantitative determination of the latter.
