FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method may be used in different branches of national economy. Article is moved to cutting zone between oppositely-positioned rotating abrasive tools. They are represented by diamond drums which length of generating lines exceeds maximum size of machined article along said generating lines. Working movement of article to cutting zone is performed by means of article displacement across axes of rotation of diamond drums. Axes of rotation are oriented spatially in parallel to each other and arranged in the same plane with lines of contact of cutting members of diamond drums with article surfaces being machined. Article is based on one of machined surfaces with the aid of basic facilities one of which is located beyond cutting zone on side of machined article entry, and the second is positioned similarly to the first one on side of its removal from cutting zone. Article may be intercepted in process of machining. The method enables superprecise machining of articles of different standard sizes. EFFECT: reduced technical and economic expenses. 2 cl, 5 dwg
