FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method may be used in different branches of national economy. Article is fed between two oppositely-positioned rotating abrasive tools for machining of entire area of its flat surfaces. Diamond drums with length of generatrices exceeding maximum size of machined article along generatrices are used as abrasive tools. Axes of rotation of diamond drums are oriented spatially in parallel to each other and positioned in the same plane with contact lines of diamond drums with machined surfaces of article. The article is fed to cutting zone by plane-parallel displacement of it across axes of drum rotation with at least single crossing of said axes with axis of article rotation. Article is based at least at three points along one of surfaces machined by means of respective diamond drum, provided it contacts article along line and along at least one basic facility located beyond cutting zone on side of said drum. The method enables superprecision machining of flat articles of different standard sizes. EFFECT: reduced technical and economic expenditures. 4 dwg
