FIELD: inorganic synthesis and power cells. SUBSTANCE: lithium is preliminarily introduced into manganese oxide via reaction of the latter with lithium hydroxide and/or lithium salt largely without formation spinel-structured lithium or manganese oxide. Then, manganese oxide reacts with preliminarily introduced lithium compound at elevated temperature to spinel-structured salt LixMn2O4+δ, wherein 0.9<x<1.2 and 0<δ<0.4. Lithium-containing manganese dioxide is separated from reaction mixture and heated to form lithium-manganese sesquioxide (LixMn2O3). The latter interacts with lithium carbonate at elevated temperature to form lithium-manganese oxide spinel. This product is used as positive electrode in secondary rechargeable batteries.
