FIELD: transport engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed power system has internal combustion engine with output shaft connected with electric machine by means of gearbox, belts or chains forming a transmission installed between electric machine, engine and output shaft. Series-wound or compound-wound machine features electric characteristics to increase angular speed at reduction of load. Use can be made of ac or dc machine with or without brushes to control current, including control of direct current to provided load-following torque. Machine is connected with engine output shaft by means of transmission operating under two modes drive movement by means of one-way clutch and eccentric clutch together with control of direction of machine rotation to provide: 1) starting of engine by electric machine; 2) using electric machines as generator with engine operating; 3) simultaneous driving of load by electric machine and engine with engine operation; 4) driving of load by electric machine; and 5) driving of electric machine by engine to operate as generator for charging storage battery and supply other consumers when load is cut off.
