FIELD: manufacture of optical fiber. SUBSTANCE: fiber is twisted in the process of stretching in accordance with the function of twisting, having a sufficient content of harmonics to obtain a low level of dispersion of polarization modes in full-scale manufactured fibers with the beat length unknown beforehand, the beat lengths in various parts of the fiber inclusive. The considered functions of twisting use definite resonance of energy transfer between the polarization modes for essential reduction of dispersion of polarization modes within a wide range of beat lengths. Examples of suitable functions of twisting include frequency - and amplitude- modulated oscillations. EFFECT: reduced dispersion of polarization modes in single-mode optical fiber. 29 cl, 17 dwg
