FIELD: optics. SUBSTANCE: single-mode optical waveguide fiber includes operational window on wave length 1550 nm and region of core having profile of refractive index incorporating three sections as minimum and layer of coat having profile of refractive index. Refractive index of at least part of mentioned-above profile of region of core is greater than refractive index of at least part of mentioned profile of layer of coat and at least one section of mentioned-above profile of core has minimal refractive index lesser than minimal refractive index of layer of coat. According to one version of manufacture optical waveguide fiber has effective area larger than 90 μm2 in operational window on wave length 1550 nm and ratio of effective area to area of field of mode greater than 1.3. In correspondence with another version optical waveguide fiber has bimodal characteristic of intensity of electric field multiplied by radius. EFFECT: manufacture of optical waveguide fiber whose normal operation with bending is comparable with normal operation of traditional optical waveguide fiber with stepped refractive index, reduction of undesirable non-linear waveguide effects. 16 cl, 11 dwg
