FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method of at least partial reduction of iron oxides includes formation of reagents layer on furnace rotary hearth. Reagents layer consists of mixture of finely divided iron ore and crushed carbon-containing material and/or microsinter products of crushed iron ore and ground carbon-containing material. Reagents layer is heated. Diameter of microsinter particles is less than 1400 mcm and, preferably, larger than 500 mcm. Partially reduced product is used, preferably, in production of metallic iron in converter for reducing melting. Method allows conduction of process with use of rotary hearth furnace without granulation of finely divided iron ore and bituminous coal. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 7 cl, 2 dwg, 4 tbl
