FIELD: production of superhard materials under conditions of high pressures and temperature; applicable in tool engineering. SUBSTANCE: method of production of superhard composite materials in form of compacts includes directed impregnation, under high pressure, of layer of superhard material powder in form of cubic boron nitride, diamond or their mixtures with metal melt. Heating is carried out in two phases by two counter heat fluxes: main flux directed through layer of binding substance toward powder of superhard material, and additional flux directed toward the main flux. During period of time since beginning of heating up to beginning of melting of binding substance and impregnation of layer of superhard material powder with binding substance, the first phase of heating takes place, at which power of additional heat flux amounts from 15 to 75% of main heat flux. Then, the second heating phase comes, at which power of main heat flux is reduced and power of additional heat flux is increased to attain the uniform heating of layer of superhard material powders and binding substance above temperature of its melting with help of both heat fluxes. It is good practice to perform reversing and equalization of heat fluxes within short period of time to avoid superheating of initial powders of superhard materials.
