FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing monofluoromethyl ether by reacting corresponding monochloromethyl ether with hydrofluoride salt of sterically hindered tertiary amine. Process is carried out by heating at elevated temperatures, atmospheric pressure or in closed vessel under pressure. Monofluoromethyl ether is represented by formula: wherein A is fluorinated lower alkyl, fluorine or chlorine, and R1 and R2 are independently selected from group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, branched lower alkyl, fluorinated lower alkyl, fluorine and chlorine provided that at least one of A, R1 or R2 is fluorinated lower alkyl, lower alkyl or branched lower alkyl.
