FIELD: manufacture of heat-insulating materials used in building materials industry. SUBSTANCE: basalt fiber based on basalt rock melt comprises wt %: SiO2, 48-52: TiO2, 2-3; Al2O3, 12.5-15.5; Fe2O3, 4-8; FeO, 6.5-10.5; CaO, 8.5-10.5; MgO, 5-7, MnO, 0.1-0.5; Na2O, 1.5-3.5; K2O, 0.5-2.5; P2O5, 0.2- 0.5; ZrO2 1-3; Cr2O3, CuO or mixture thereof; 0.5-2.0. Method comprises melting blend of above-indicated composition with optional addition of Li2O, subsequently forming fibers, molding fibrous material, feeding ecologically clean composite binder, finishing carpet to final dimensions and drying said carpet. Lithium oxide is added in amount of 0.5-1 wt %, sum of Na2O+K2O+Li2O being 2.5-7.0 wt %. EFFECT: reduced manufacturing cost, wider range of materials used, improved quality and better service characteristics of basalt fiber and basalt fibrous heater. 4 cl, 5 ex, 1 tbl
