FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: method comprises heating aqueous titanium oxide which is readily converted into rutile titanium dioxide until at least 99.5 wt % are in rutile crystalline form. Aqueous titanium oxide is heated to 950 C at rate of 1 C per minute. Average crystal size varies form 0.17 to 0.32 mcm. Geometric weight standard particle size deviation is less than 1.25. Average particle size to average crystal size ratio is less than 1.25: 1. Product has very narrow particle distribution of particle and crystal size and is superb pigment.
