FIELD: polymer materials. SUBSTANCE: invention concerns production of polymer optical fiber with low luminous flux that can find use in communication system, medicine, in light boards and illumination systems. Fiber with structure "kern-reflecting shell" is manufactured by passing polymer kern melt through extruder having evacuation zone simultaneously with fluorine-containing polymer melt as reflecting shell material. Kern polymer material, in particular polystyrene, polymethylmethacrylate, copolymer of styrene or methyl methacrylate with acrylates, alkyl methacrylates, fluoro(meth)acrylates, or unsaturated alicyclic compounds, can be prepared by(co)polymerization of preliminarily rectified monomers. In any of process steps, stabilizing agent can be added, in particular stable nitroxide radical of general formula I: (I), in which R is =O, -OH, or = NOH group, in amounts from 0.00001 to 0.1 wt %.
