FIELD: mechanical engineering; four- stroke internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: in process of operation of four-stroke engine including delivery of mixture into cylinder, its compression, ignition and scavenging of working space, part of mixture, with engine operating at partial loads, is taken out from working space when piston moves to top dead center in process of compression, and part of mixture remaining in cylinder is compressed and in process of expansion taken-out part of mixture is fed into additional reservoir. In process of scavenging, with piston moving into top dead center, mixture is fed into behind-the-piston space to volume equal to working volume, and in process of intake, full working volume of mixture is fed into cylinder, including the part taken off at compression and fed into behind-the-piston space. EFFECT: reduced consumption of fuel, increased service life and reliability, improved protection of ambient atmosphere from pollution with exhaust gases. 9 cl, 9 dwg
