FIELD: unconventional fuels for internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of hydrogen via cracking of ammonia, which passes over ammonia cracking catalyst. The latter represents alloy having general formula Zr1-xTixM1M2, wherein M1 and M2 are selected from Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, and Ni, and x varies from 0.0 to 1.0 inclusively, with 20 to 50% aluminum. Invention also provides method of running internal combustion engines based on hydrogen fuel and hydrogen fuel cells involving ammonia cracking catalyst. Efficiency of ammonia cracking reaches 95% and getter material of invention enables hydrogen production with flow rate from 100 to 200 l/min. This rate is especially suitable for effective use of hydrogen in internal combustion engines. EFFECT: optimized hydrogen supply. 50 cl, 5 dwg, 4 ex
