FIELD: machine tool manufacture, namely, production of blanking die sets for making cardboard articles. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of cutting groove in base of die set by means of laser irradiation at forming protrusions on surfaces of die; making groove by two passes; in first variant of invention moving laser beam along predetermined curvilinear crossing or non-crossing paths arranged symmetrically relative to central axis of groove. In second variant of invention laser beam is moved along non-crossing curvilinear paths arranged symmetrically relative to central axis of groove and mutually shifted by 1/2 of period. In third variant laser beam is moved along non-crossing curvilinear paths arranged equidistantly one relative to another. Parameters of paths are selected in such a way that to receive optimal width of groove providing high quality mounting of blanking cutters in grooves of base of blanking die set. Method combines advantages of pulse- and contour-type laser cutting processes. Typical size of flaws occurred at making base is less by several times that at single-pass laser cutting process.
