FIELD: agriculture. SUBSTANCE: one selects a sample with intact seeds excluding those with damaged hulls to make them water permeable and determines density of each seed, which are then identified and moistened in a swelling liquid. Swelled seeds are separated from non swelled ones, after which one determines density distribution polygons of swelled and non swelled seeds with specified values of density group boundaries. Polygons are compared with each other and seed density groups corresponding to maximum number of non swelled seeds. Finally, fractions with densities of indicated groups are selected from common lot of seeds, for example on pneumatic sorting table.
