FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to design of cooler for granular material subjected to heat treatment in industrial kiln, for instance, rotary kiln for production of cement clinker. Proposed cooler has inlet, outlet, end face walls, side walls, bottom and ceiling, at least one stationary support surface for taking in and supporting of material to be cooled, device for injecting cooling gas into material and system with scrapers made for reciprocation and including set of scraper member installed across direction of material movement. Scraper members can move backwards and forwards in direction of material movement to displace material forward along support surface. Each row of transverse scraper members is rigidly secured on at least one drive plate oriented in direction of material movement. This plate passes at least over entire length of support surface being passed either through support surface of cooler, its ceiling, one of side walls and/or at least through one of end face walls where drive plate is connected with drive providing its backward and forward movement.
