FIELD: liquid fuel gasification processes. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalyst and a method for realizing vapor conversion of ethanol and aims at enhancing efficiency of alcohol vapor conversion process by way of extending varieties of raw materials, in particular using water-alcohol mixtures containing methanol, and also by preventing deactivation of catalyst and formation of by-products. The task is solved by carrying out vapor conversion of alcohols into synthesis gas or carbon-enriched mixture in reactor with two fixed catalyst beds. The latter are made up of different catalysts and are operated at different temperatures. First-bed catalyst contains metals belonging to 16 group of Periodic system and precious metals as active components supported in amounts at least 0.05 wt % by graphite-like carbon carrier. Second-bed catalyst is nickel-containing one. Alcohol utilized is ethanol or methanol-ethanol mixture. Processing of ethanol, including biological-origin ethanol, allows using non-distilled water-alcohol mixtures, which is of importance in technology. Composition of catalysts can be widely varied. EFFECT: avoided formation of by-products. 11
