FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a catalytic method for vapour conversion of methanol in order to produce a hydrogen-rich gas mixture which can be used in hydrogen power generation, particularly as fuel for fuel cells for various purposes. Described is a catalyst for vapour conversion of methanol, which is copper-cerium oxide deposited on aluminium oxide. Described is a method of preparing the catalyst by treating aluminium oxide in a solution of copper and cerium nitrates taken in the required ratio, followed by drying and calcination in air at 400-450°C. Described also is a method of producing a hydrogen-rich gas mixture by reacting methanol vapour and water vapour at temperature 200-350°C, pressure 1-100 atm, molar ratio H2O/CH3OH=0.5-5, in the presence of the described catalyst.
EFFECT: high output of hydrogen, obtaining hydrogen-containing gas with low content of carbon oxide with molar ratio water/methanol equal to the stoichiometric ratio (H2O/CH3OH=1), which has technological significance.
