FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of synthesis of 1- and 2-chloroadamantanes used for production of thermostable polymers, insecticides, fungicides and medicinal preparations. Method is carried out by catalytic chlorination of 1- and 2-adamantanols using chloroform as a chlorinating agent. Ferrous and ferric salts, for example, and Fe(OAc)2 are used as catalyst. Process is carried out in the presence of metallic titanium as powder, chips or plates and polymer taken among polybutadiene, polyisoprene or butadiene-styrene rubber taken in the amount 4-6 g-atom/1 g of iron. The mole ratio [adamantanol-1 or -2] : [CHCl3] : [Fe] : [Ti] = 500: 1000: 1: (1-100), respectively. Process is performed at the room temperature for 0.5 h.
