SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 1-chloroadamantane by catalytic chlorination of adamantane, characterised by that chlorination is carried out using carbon tetrachloride in the presence of ethanol under the action of iron-containing catalysts selected from Fe(acac)3, Fe(C5H5)2, Fe2(CO)9 at 160-170°C for 3-6 hours, with molar ratio [adamantane]:[CCl4]:[C2H5OH]:[catalyst]=100:200:100:1-3.
EFFECT: simple technique of producing 1-chloroadamantane.
