FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of synthesis of 1,3-dichloroadamantane that is used in production of thermostable and chemostable polymers, insecticides and medicinal preparations. Method is carried out by catalytic chlorination of adamantane using chloroform or methylene chloride as chlorinating agents. Ferrous or ferric salts are used as catalyst. Process is performed in the presence of metallic titanium as powder, chips or plates and polymer taken among polybutadiene, polyisoprene or butadiene-styrene rubber taken in the amount 2-10 g of polymer/1 g-atom of iron. The mole ratio [Fe] : [Ti] : [CH2Cl2 or CHCl3] = 1: (0.1-10): (500-1000): (500-1000), respectively. Process is carried out at 150-200 C for 3-5 h.
