METHOD FOR RESTORING BACKUP ROLLS Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: rolled stock production, possibly restoration of backup rolls by surfacing. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of preliminarily heating up roll in hood horizontal furnace until temperature 440-460C at heating until 100 C with rate 10-20 C/hour and at further heating until above mentioned desired temperature at higher rate but not exceeding 50 C/hour; surfacing roll at simultaneously heating it and then cooling roll. Novelty is covering cone neck portions of roll with heat insulation material after preliminarily heating roll and placing it in surfacing machine before surfacing operation; raising roll over surfacing machine by means of bridge crane; applying heat-insulation lubricant onto rest necks of rolls; placing on supports of surfacing machine laps remained onto said supports until termination of surfacing procedure; descending rest necks of roll onto laps; energizing rotation drive of roll and for 1.5-2 hours lapping heat-insulation lubricant on rest necks of roll; after termination of surfacing procedure placing roll in furnace for normalizing; heating it up to 520-550 C, soaking it at such temperature for 10-12 hours, cooling in furnace at rate 15-20 C until temperature 100 C; then subjecting roll to cooling outside furnace until environmental temperature. Method provides uniform layer of surfaced austenite structure with high resistance against cracking and crumbling out. EFFECT: enhanced quality of surfacing, lowered energy consumption, improved quality of rolled strips, decreased wear of roll. 3 dwg
