FIELD: fiber- optic transmission systems and their components. SUBSTANCE: device has straight fiber and one or more loop-fiber sections connected to straight fiber through respective optical switches for selective transmission of optical signal propagating over straight fiber to loop fiber sections. Loop sections are, essentially, dispersion compensating fibers or fibers doped with material capable of amplifying or absorbing optical signal in presence or absence of pumping signal, respectively. In this way various dispersion or amplification (absorption) quantities can be switched over, as required. Amplifying component may function as preamplifier, power amplifier, or line amplifier depending on parameters of amplifying fiber chosen in switching-over operations Device may be inserted in transmission system or its components by splicing with ends of straight fiber or joining through optical switches connected to straight fiber ends. EFFECT: provision for switching over amplification, filtering, and/or dispersion quantities of optical signal in field conditions. 15 cl, 9 dwg
