UNIT FOR CLEANING WATER AND METHOD OF ITS REGENERATION AND DECONTAMINATION Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: units for cleaning tap water; regeneration and decontamination of water cleaning units. SUBSTANCE: proposed unit has housing with bottom and inlet and discharge branch pipes, hose, multi-stage medium containing cation-exchange fibers, activated carbon impregnated with silver and anion-exchange fibers. Multi-stage medium is placed between upper and lower distributing grates; area of upper grate is lesser than that of lower grate by 30 to 40%. Lower distributing grate is supported by splitter plate of bottom. Inlet branch pipe changes to pressure passage which is filled with filamentary prefilter; size of particles entrapped by prefilter is lesser than that of pores of cation-exchange fibers by 15 to 35%. All inner surfaces of units are coated with layer of bactericidal agent. Method of regeneration and decontamination of unit consists in mechanical cleaning of filamentary prefilter by 3.0 - 4.5% aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) followed by treatment by 1.2- 1.5% aqueous solution of citric acid (C6H8O7).. Regeneration and decontamination of medium is performed by means of 5-8% aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) mixed with 0.5-1.0% of aqueous solution of hydroperit (H2O2) for 10-15 minutes, after which solution is drained and repeated treatment by regenerating solution is carried out which is left in unit for at least 4 hours.
