FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: invention refers to procedure measuring time of propagation of sound signal between converters placed in fluid medium and spaced apart. Procedure consists in retrieval and conversion to digital form of each received sound signal, in determination of maximum amplitudes P- and P+ of two lobes of examined period per each period of above-mentioned signal retrieved and converted to digital form, in comparison of relation of above-mentioned amplitudes to relation of ideal amplitudes between maximum amplitudes Pi- and Pi+ of two lobes of first ideal characteristic period, in determination of first transition through zero of characteristic oscillations of above-mentioned signal. Depending on result of mentioned comparison with reference to threshold value Gs examined period is considered either period of interference corresponding to noise or characteristic period. EFFECT: raised measurement accuracy. 11 cl, 7 dwg
