FIELD: experimental hydrodynamics of air-dispersed flows; engine-free tests of fuel equipment components. SUBSTANCE: air- dispersed flow produced in spraying liquid by sprayer under test is subjected stroboscopic inspection; mean intensity of ray reflected from air-dispersed liquid flow and that of ray passed through air-dispersed liquid flow in opposite directions at small angle to air-dispersed liquid flow axis are measured by means of TV cameras. Recorded ratio of mean intensity of ray reflected from air-dispersed liquid flow to that of ray passed through air-dispersed liquid flow for sprayer under test and preset ratio of mean intensity of ray reflected from air-dispersed liquid flow to that of ray passed through air-dispersed liquid flow for standard sprayer are used as radiation indices of sprayer under test and standard sprayer. With radiation index of sprayer under test higher than or equal to that of standard sprayer, sprayer under test may be considered to conform to standard sprayer. Radiation indices are compared by means of operational unit electrically connected to TV cameras. Proposed method yields unbiased data on spray quality in different phases of flow development. EFFECT: enhanced speed and precision of tests. 1 dwg
