FIELD: mechanical engineering; welding equipment. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to automation of control of welding machines used for welding metal strips. It can be used for welding ends of coils in metallurgical sets applying coatings to metal strips and strip straight tening lines. Orders for generating signals to change over to reduced speed of hook (which carries welding supply source and strip edge sensor) and to stop the hook are produced not by signals from limit switches installed basing on the maximum possible width of strip but means of additionally introduced counter and computer unit which produce the signals basing on real product by calculating the ways to be covered by hook till the moment of generation of corresponding signals for change-over to reduced speed and stopping for product in machining. Invention provides reduction of time taken for welding strips of reduced width as compared with maximum possible width. EFFECT: increased capacity of welding machine, reduced time of welding cycle as a whole. 2 dwg
