FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of production of phenol by direct gas-phase oxidation of benzene with nitrous oxide in the presence of industrial zeolites. Oxidation of benzene to phenol is carried out at 350-450 C with nitrous oxide in the presence of high-siliceous zeolite catalyst modified by addition of metal ions. Impregnation is carried out by metal salt aqueous solutions by moisture capacity of zeolite preliminary calcined at 500-550 C and then activated by calcination at high temperature. Sodium, calcium, barium, strontium, manganese, chromium and antimony ions or their mixtures are used as additions and ZSM-5-50 and ZSM-5-80 are used as a zeolite. Catalyst activation is performed for two stages. At the first stage catalyst is calcined in air flow at 450-500 C and at the second stage at 700-900 C.
