FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method includes melting of magnesium charge, alloying, refining to remove iron and silicon impurities by adding zirconium or titanium in amounts 0.006-0.08% of the weight of charge at 740-760 C, and modifying alloy at these temperatures with carbon-containing substances: magnesite or hexachloroethane introduced into alloy in amounts exceeding 0.4% (magnesite) or exceeding 0.1% (hexachloroethane). EFFECT: improved purity of alloy, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties. 1 tbl, 2 ex
