SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a novel method of synthesis of 2,3-pyridine dicarboximide of the formula (I) where R means hydrogen atom, C₁-C₆-alkyl or C₁-C₆-alkoxymethyl; R₁ means hydrogen atom, C₁-C₆-alkyl, C(O)-R₂, phenyl, benzyl; R₂ means C₁-C₆-alkyl, benzyl or phenyl. Method involves interaction of compound of the formula (II) where R means the indicated values; R₆ means C₁-C₆-alkyl; R₇ means OR₈ or NR₉R₁₀,; R₈ means hydrogen atom, C₁-C₆-alkyl, C(O)-R₁₁, phenyl, benzyl; R₁₁ means C₁-C₆-alkyl, OR₁₂, NR₁₂, R₁₃,, benzyl or phenyl; R₁₂ and R₁₃ mean hydrogen atom, C₁-C₆-alkyl, benzyl or phenyl; R₉ and R₁₀ mean hydrogen atom, C₁-C_6/ -alkyl, benzyl or phenyl with maleic acid imide of the formula (III) where R₁ means the above indicated values. Describing method is acceptable for its realization under industrial conditions and ensures to obtain the end product with high yield and high degree of purity. Invention relates also to a novel intermediate substance of the formula (IV) where R means hydrogen atom, C₁-C₄-alkyl or C₁-C₄-alkoxy-methyl-group; R₆ means C₁-C₄-alkyl; R₈ means hydrogen atom or C₁-C₆-alkyl.
