FIELD: railway, city and industrial transport. SUBSTANCE: proposed rail brake has suspension members and common housing accommodating great number of spatially elongated stationary permanent magnets. Permanent magnets of each pair are magnetized in direction along rail axis to have similar magnetic polarity with adjacent ferromagnetic pole shoes and alternating polarity relative to rail. Each pair of permanent magnets is furnished additionally with electric coil installed on U-shaped armature so that direction of magnetic field induced by coil matches with direction of magnetic field of permanent magnet. Nonmagnetic plate, 0.5-0.8 mm thick, is placed between armature and ferromagnetic pole shoes. Each coil has separate supply source. Each permanent magnet is made of material featuring high induction and high coercive force. EFFECT: simplified design of rail brake, improved reliability in service. 4 cl, 3 dwg
