METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PRODUCTION OF CAST ALUMINUM-BASE COMPOSITE MATERIALS Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: metallurgy, particularly, development of materials possessing low density, high antifriction properties and flexibility applicable in mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method of production of cast composite materials includes smelting of master alloy, introduction of dispersed reinforcing phase into melt, mixing of obtained mixture, subsequent casting and crystallization under pressure. To increase assimilation of dispersed phase and uniformity of its distribution, master alloy is overheated by 100-150 C above its melting point, mixed in crucible with rotation speed of 4-8 c-1 up to positive speed gradient from surface to center, and dispersed filler is directed at speed of 0.5-3 m/s onto internal surface of rotating melt. After that, melt is mixed at relative speed of disk of 1-5 m/s and refined from gas phase for 60-120 s. Device for method embodiment includes crucible rotating on vertical shaft, impeller in form of flat disk, dosing apparatus of dispersed material. Crucible-disk diameters ratio is 1:(1.2-1.3). Depth of impeller immersion into melt equals 0.2- 0.5 of melt height. End of tube supplying dispersed material from dosing apparatus is located at distance of 5-15 mm from impeller rotation axis. Impeller rotation axis is displaced relative to crucible axis through 5-10 mm. Titanium with nitrided surface is used as material of disk.
