FIELD: mechanical engineering; applicable in modification of surfaces of machine parts. SUBSTANCE: method includes preliminary preparation of article surface; location of current-conducting material in zone of article treatment; supply of negative potential to article and separately to current-conducting material; excitation on current-conducting material of vacuum arc firing in vapors of said material with formation of plasma; bombardment, cleaning and heating of article surface with ions of current-conducting material from titanium or alloys on its base; accumulation and diffusion of titanium layer 1-10 mcm thick onto article surface with negative potential within 0-200 V on article; then with negative potential within 300-1000 V on article and article surface temperature below temperature of its softening. EFFECT: increased resistance of article to salt corrosion. 7 cl, 1 tbl, 14 ex
